Raiders and Lady Raiders qualify for district tournament
Six boys and eight girls from Lake Roosevelt Jr/Sr High will head to their respective District 5 wrestling tournaments this week after qualifying in the league tournament matches Saturday.
"The team battled hard against tough competition, with multiple podium finishes and standout performances," Coach Casey Brewster said of his Raider boys' team, which took fourth at the league tournament in Omak Saturday.
Rodger Cate took the league championship at 113 pounds.
Collin Christman (106) and Kaden Christman (120) each took second place in their weights.
Dillan Yazzie took third at 113.
At 150, Colin Chaney also took third place.
Other strong finishes included Blake Chuckelnaskit (215) - 4th; Jack Steffler (106) - 5th; Isaac Circle (132) - 5th; and Joseph Hoss Lauseng (165) - 6th, the coach noted.
"Every Raider wrestler fought hard, earning valuable team points and securing their spot in the District Tournament at Highland High School on February 15th," Bewster said.
Lady Raider wrestlers also competed well at the league matches and will head to their district meet at Granger on Friday.
At Okanogan, Abygail Vargas (155), Selma Lewandowski (170), and Addison Cannon (190) each earned second-place finishes.
Ayamae Duclos (145) and Cora Nicholson (115) battled their way to third place. Jahzara Simpson (170) also secured a third-place finish, and Nelly Selam (100) took fourth. Sienna Atchison (145) contributed with a sixth-place finish.
