LR sending seven to state chess tourney

Seven Raiders will compete at the Washington State High School Team Chess Championship in Stanwood Friday and Saturday.

To qualify, the team took third at the regional tournament in Ephrata Feb. 1, competing against teams in all school size categories.

“We’re bringing seven kids, including two alternates who will be competing in the parallel All-Comers individual tournament,” Coach Steve Files said.

On the team are Zane Chafee, Ethan Croasmun, Cody Ewers, Rylie McKee, Caches Parrish, Chance Perdue, and Malachi Stice.

An overall champion is crowned in addition to 4A, 3A, 2A, A and B team titles.
