Raiders fall in first round, but play today

Lake Roosevelt on Tuesday sent off the Raider boys' basketball team to the state tournament at the Spokane Arena.

"We knew we're going to be tough this year," Coach Ed Wolfe told the assemble student body. "Here we are. We put in a lot of work from summertime till now. We believed in ourselves from the very start."

Scheduled to play Tri-Cities Prep in game 11 of the state tournament, they'll meet the Jaguars at 12:15 in Wednesday's "Round of 12" in a loser-out contest to see who goes on to the quarterfinals on Thursday. Both teams are 21-5.

The Raiders got that fifth loss Saturday in the opening round of state when Colfax, last year's state champion, handed them a 70-49 lesson.

If the Raiders beat Tri-Cities Wednesday, they'll play Reardan in game 15 Thursday at 12:15. Winning that would send them to Friday's semifinal in game 20 at 5:30 p.m. against either Freeman or the winner of game 12 - either Napavine or Northwest Christian.

That winner plays for first or second place in the championship round at 9 p.m. Saturday.

A loss to Reardan on Thursday sends them to game 18 on Friday to vie for a chance at fourth or sixth place at 8 a.m. Saturday. A win against Reardan but a loss on Friday would put them playing for third or fifth at 11:15 Saturday morning in game 22.
